Near the capital city of Zagreb the Pisarovina region is located, with a rich Christmas tradition that is still present in some parts of the local population.
During the Advent, visit Donja Kupčina Native Museum, which preserves the ethnographic heritage of the area. In the museum you can find out how people used to make their own Christmas decorations in these areas and see an exhibition of Christmas decorations. If you have the time, reserve your place at the Christmas workshop at the Museum, where you can learn how to make these traditional decorations made of crepe paper and how to make sheep of clay, pastry and wool.
Under the expert guidance of the museum, learn more about traditional Christmas customs in the area.
If you are planning your visit to the Pisarovina area for several days, then we definitely recommend you to attend the Mass in one of the parish churches – the parish church of St. Mary Magdalene in Donja Kupčina and the parish church of St. Martin the Bishop in Jamnica Pisarovinska.
Traditionally in this area there is a Christmas concert where church choirs and folklore societies perform. The Christmas concert is being held in the sports hall of the Vladimir Nazor elementary school. In addition to the mentioned Christmas concert in December, the Donja Kupčina community house also hosts the concert “Singing towards Christmas” where the folklore society “Magdalena” from Donja Kupčina and guests from different parts of Croatia perform.
Book your accommodation in one of the holiday homes in this area and feel the fullness of peace and Christmas blessing surrounded by the warmth of wooden houses, the scents of baked homemade bread and fresh cheese, and the hospitality of your hosts.
